Low-code MVP or real-engineering MVP? Pick the right one.
There is a wave of studios that assemble an MVP in two weeks with low-code and AI tools. For some ideas that is exactly right, and we will tell you when it is. For business-critical software, it is a trap you pay for later. Here is the honest way to choose.
Low-code is the right call when
- You need to prove a simple idea this week, on the smallest possible budget.
- The app is mostly forms, lists, and simple flows, with little real business logic.
- You expect to throw the prototype away once it has done its job.
- Nobody gets hurt if it is slow, breaks occasionally, or loses some data.
If that is you, a low-code tool or a low-code studio is genuinely the smart move. We are not that team, and we will say so.
Real engineering is the right call when
- The software is business-critical: money, operations, or customers depend on it.
- There is real logic: pricing, scheduling, invoicing, permissions, or a hard integration.
- You will build on this for years, and you need to own and export your data and code.
- You need it to scale, stay secure, and be maintainable by any senior engineer later.
That is the software we build, in Ruby on Rails and React, and it is what a Validation Sprint is designed to de-risk.
Where a low-code MVP tends to break.
Low-code is fast because it hides the hard parts. That is fine until your business depends on one of them. The usual failure points:
- Complex business logic hits a wall the platform was never built for, and workarounds pile up.
- Costs balloon per seat or per record exactly when you start to succeed.
- You are locked into a vendor, and moving off it means a full rebuild anyway.
- Hard integrations, real security, and performance under load are the first things to buckle.
- When you raise or grow, engineers you hire cannot easily take it over, so you start again.
What we do instead
We prove the risky part in a fixed-price Validation Sprint, built on the same real Rails and React foundation we would use for the full product. You get a working MVP you can judge and a fixed quote for the full build. Nothing is throwaway, and nothing locks you in. If your idea is simpler than that, we will point you to the lighter path honestly.

- Cheap and disposable idea test: use low-code.
- Something your business will actually run on: build it right, de-risked, from the start.
- Not sure which? A discovery call will tell you in twenty minutes, for free.
Not sure which one you need?
Tell us what you are building. We will give you a straight answer, even if the straight answer is that you do not need us yet.
